Training programme

Initial mission date: January 2018

203 medical practitioners attended the Healing Project training event at Dr Soetomo Hospital, Surabaya, including:

136 general practitioners

18 dermatologists

37 dermatovenereology residents

12 medical students.

The course covered a range of dermatological issues, including bacterial and fungal diseases, viral infections, allergies, congenital conditions, HIV/AIDS and leprosy-related conditions.

Treatment and patient education event

210 diagnostic and treatment appointments were provided free of charge to villagers at an event in Tambak Pocok village, Pulau Madura. Many more patients and their families attended the events.

The event included a series of informational presentations on health issues including general skin complaints, sexually transmitted conditions, scabies and leprosy.

Common skin-related conditions included Xerosis, Dermatitis, Scabies and Tinea Corporis.

A wide range of medical conditions were diagnosed and treated, including the diagnosis of 7 new cases of leprosy. These patients were referred for further diagnostic appointments and treatment including Multi-Drug Therapy. (Multi-Drug Therapy provides a cure for leprosy, provided free of charge globally by the World Health Organisation.)
